We recently competed construction of a renovation
combining two apartments into a gracious, functional duplex home
for the client.
The new plan for the lower level is an open loft-like living
space combining a kitchen, living room and dining room. A family
room that also serves as a guest bedroom is separated by two large
pocket doors. On the upper level there are three bedrooms including
a large master bedroom and bath suite. A new, minimalist steel
stair will connect the two levels. The stair is composed of a
folded steel surface with simple wood treads and a delicate steel
handrail.
A conscious decision was made to limit the palate of materials
so that the unique beauty of each material will stand out and
provide the client with a sumptuous, yet visually understandable
interior space.
